Before trading was ever revealed, people traded through the mail, since non-members could both send and receive at the time. It was dumb. You could have been easily tricked into giving away your precious rare or "beta" object, and not even for a necklace. Since there was really nothing "beta" or "rare" at the time, this wasn't a big deal. But imagine how disastrous the consequences would be today, about four years later. Your now rare-as-heck Cami's Frog would be lost to nothing, and your Rare Fox hat for a necklace instead of the promised Non-Member Bat Wings. Sad, no? You'd be lucky to find a fair-trading Jammer.
I remember the revelation of trading, about the same time I heard of rares. The buzz was rather large, and I think it improved the system a lot. But there were still multiple liars, those who used the mail "trading system". As of 2014, this process has died out and only used among scammers. But the trade system was not as great as now days. There was no "Are You Sure" button, and the choices appeared right away without giving you a chance to think. Moving meant risking an accept sometimes.
The most popular is the glitch scam. You'd have to accept a trade quickly without looking at specific items traded, and use your best rarest awesomest whateverelsest item. You'd end up glitch free with a pillow or two. Or, the infamous den item scam. One would put den items where the accept button is and ask you to do something similar: put a rare on trade and click where the item is without a break. Bam, bye-bye items.
I don't know much more on the history due to the "Dark Ages", because I was once HACKED. I don't know why, but I ended up having a "bloody" avatar, with X eyes, and all my items disappeared. My parents didn't let me play for a year or more.
Here are some ways to prevent hacks and scams:
- NEVER, and I mean NEVER, post your username and password/email in the comments to a YouTube video, or tell another jammer. This is the main way people get their victims.
- Make your password something misspelled, not actually a word, in another language only you know, and with numbers. At least two of these requirements are recommended.
- Don't do glitches involving trading, and only do glitches you find on YouTube, shown to you first, and with evidence from others.
- Never trade with the mail system! Only members can send and receive, and there is an ACTUAL trade system for you to use! How stupid would that feel?
